This format began with a concept from Alex Fradera and developed by Open Heart Theatre and other earlier cast members, including former members Mark Tindle, Maria Laumark and Toby Mugford. Each show kicks off with a scene in a pre-determined location where a number of characters hang out and enjoy conversation. This conversation is then mined for inspirations for the scenes that follow, before returning again to the location. It is inspired by formats such as the Living Room and the Pretty Flower, and some affinity with the structure of the Bareback Kings’ show. Visually it is set apart from many improvisation shows by the use of props, costume and basic scenography to bring the hang location to life.
The Hang has been a regular format at Let Us Make It Up To You and has a Facebook page here.
